Skillful Screenings You Can Trust

Thorough Oral Cancer Screenings in the Temecula, CA Area

At Ready 2 Smile Dental Group, we understand the important role we play in detecting signs of the disease. It is difficult, if not impossible, to see the inside of your mouth, which makes it difficult to see signs of oral cancer until the disease has spread. While cleaning your teeth, we can look for traditional signs of oral cancer. If we see these signs, we can refer you to an oncologist for further testing.

Signs and Symptoms of Oral Cancer

Oral cancer can present itself in a few ways. At Ready 2 Smile Dental Group, our staff is trained to look out for the following hallmark signs that something might be going on:

Hard lumps

Bumps

Red and white spots

Rough patches

Unexplained bleeding or numbness

If our staff does see these signs, we will refer you to an oncologist. The oncologist will be able to do a series of more thorough tests, and come up with a customized plan based on your test results.

The Screening Process

The screening process is a relatively simple process that only takes about 2 minutes. Your dentist will ask that you open your mouth. He/she will then use a gloved hand to feel the tissues of your mouth. The dentist will look for any lumps or signs of abnormal growths, and use a light to look in your mouth as well. As long as there are no irregular signs, the dentist will then continue your regular dental check-up.

The Significance of Regular Screenings

Though an oral cancer screening is a very small part of a patient's bi-annual check up, it is vital. Since patients are expected to see their dentist once every 6 months, an oral cancer screening is done twice a year. This means that if anything irregular does come up during the inspection, it can be caught and treated quickly.
