What is Invisalign® and How Does it Work?

How Invisalign® Dentistry Works in Temecula CA

Greater Temecula's Trusted Invisalign Dentist

At Ready 2 Smile Dental Group, Invisalign is one of the most successful dental solutions to help properly align a patient’s teeth. This method uses clear plastic aligners that are custom-molded to the patient’s mouth. Every 1-2 weeks the patient then receives new aligners, which are made to shift the patient’s teeth a little bit more than the last. At Ready 2 Smile Dental Group, we have used Invisalign to help many patients get the smile of their dreams.

Treatable Causes for Invisalign

Invisalign is not for everyone. While traditional braces can take on just about any misalignment issue, Invisalign cannot. The following outlines mild to moderate common dental problems that Invisalign can be used to treat:

Gaps

Overbite

Underbite

Crowding

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign is a rather easy alignment method to get used to. This is because it does not cause too many changes to an individual’s daily routine. An Invisalign patient will receive a new set of aligners every 1-2 weeks. Each set of aligners will be a little different from the last, causing the patient’s teeth to continue to move in small increments until the goal is reached. The patient must wear these aligners for about 22 hours a day, with the exception of during meals and brushing/flossing their teeth. This means that a patient can eat/drink whatever they like, since they will not have anything unusual in the way during meals.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

The cost of Invisalign depends on the dentist chosen, the location, the number of aligners a patient will need, etc. However, a good estimate of the cost of these services is anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000. Fortunately, this cost typically does not have to be paid in full. Many dental offices, including Ready 2 Smile Dental Group, offer financing options. This means a patient will not have to worry about covering the entire expense in full before services begin. Instead, they can pay in piecemeal. In addition, some dental insurance carriers also cover a portion of Invisalign costs, which can knock the final price tag down a little as well.

The Step-by-Step Process

It can be helpful to know and understand the Invisalign procedure before deciding whether or not it is right for you. At Ready 2 Smile Dental Group, we follow the below procedure to assist Invisalign patients:

Collection. Once you and your dentist have decided that Invisalign is the right treatment for you, he/she will begin to collect data. This includes x-rays and moldings of the patients teeth, which will be sent to Invisalign. This data will help staff create a treatment plan, and create your custom-aligners to fit and move your teeth properly.

Production. Invisalign staff will create the first set of aligners using high-grade medical plastic and the custom measurements from the data your dentist collected. This step will be repeated over and over with the measurements adjusted just a little bit each time, to help the teeth move.

Education. After the dentist has received your aligners, he/she will call you in and explain to you how to use them. We will go over the dos and don'ts, including that you must wear the aligners for 22 hours a day. This is a crucial step to ensure that everything goes according to plan.

Regular visits. Any Invisalign patient must visit the dentist every 6-10 weeks to make sure that their teeth are shifting as they are supposed to.

How To Give Your Aligners the Proper Care

Invisalign aligners require care. One of the most important ways to care for your aligners is to clean them. This can be done using water and a non-abrasive toothbrush. In addition, it is good practice to brush your teeth after eating a meal, and before you put the aligners back in your mouth. This will minimize the amount of debris that builds up. If you notice anything growing on or in your aligners, or notice a change, it is best to contact your dentist as soon as possible.
